Palm Beach, Aruba -- RIU's first hotel on the Caribbean island of Aruba The Spanish group has acquired the Aruba Grand Beach Resort & Casino hotel. The RIU group has incorporated a new destination in the Caribbean: the island of Aruba off the Venezuelan coast, where it has acquired the Aruba Grand Beach Resort & Casino hotel establishment. Aruba, an island with 70,000 inhabitants situated two and a half hours from Miami by air, is a former Dutch colony now part of the Dutch Antilles autonomous government where the main American holiday chains operate. The resort is located on Palm Beach, the island?s finest beach. RIU has 11,000 rooms and 26 establishments in the following Caribbean destinations: The Dominican Republic (8 resorts), Cuba (2), Florida (2), M?xico (10), Jamaica (2), the Bahamas (1) and newly incorporated Aruba (1). The group expects to open the three new Caribbean establishments: one in Jamaica (ClubHotel Riu Ocho R?os), one in Mexico ( Riu Palace Riviera Maya) and another in the Dominican Republic (Riu Palace Punta Cana), with which the chain?s total number of resorts will reach 29 in 2006. Thanks to its top quality and the variety of the destinations where it operates, RIU?s portfolio in the region and recent acquisition in Aruba consolidate it as one of the main international groups in the Caribbean in terms of number of establishments. The American magazine "Hotels" recently reported that RIU?s 110 establishments and 34,000 rooms make it the world?s 26th leading hotel chain. 08-16-2005 Riu Hotels Buys Aruba Grand: Hotel to Go All-Inclusive MIAMI -- Riu Hotels & Resorts purchased the Aruba Grand Beach Resort & Casino, renaming the 171-room property the Riu Aruba Grand.
